Buyer's guide: planning bike parking

Count bikes, then add space. Estimate how many bicycles you need to park, then confirm the rack's usable capacity, since wave-form racks often park fewer bikes than their length suggests.

• Placement. Choose a visible spot close to the entrance people actually use, ideally on a hard surface and out of the walking path.
• Mounting. Surface mount needs a slab thick enough for anchors. Ask whether the rack can also be set in-ground.
• Confirm with the supplier. Number of bikes per rack, overall length and height, tube size, finish, and anchor hardware.
• Rack type. Wave racks are easier to roll along but can be less convenient for locking the frame, so ask about locking points for your riders.
