Plan the layout first. Mark seat counts and spacing on a site plan, then match seating to how long people stay. Backed benches suit waiting areas and courtyards, while backless benches suit short stops and two-sided plazas.

• Mounting. Surface mount needs a hard pad and anchor hardware. In-ground mount needs footings, and underground utilities should be located before digging.
• Confirm with the supplier. Overall length, seat height, finish colors, and the anchor kit.
• Backless seating. Plan for people sitting on either side, and leave walking room on both sides of the bench.
• Accessibility. If the bench sits on an accessible route, ask your design professional which clearances and companion spaces your project needs.
